Happy Father’s Day

Father’s Day is an annual holiday celebrating fatherhood and male parenting. In the United States, it is always observed on the third Sunday of June. For example, in 2026 it was celebrated on Sunday, June 21.
The tradition first took root in the early 20th century. Sonora Smart Dodd of Spokane, Washington, is widely credited with establishing the holiday in 1910. She was raised by a widowed Civil War veteran and felt fathers deserved a day of honor similar to Mother’s Day. It was officially signed into law as a permanent national holiday in 1972 by President Richard Nixon.
